Teachers > Karen Toohey

Karen first sought out yoga during her university years to relieve stress.  As her life unfolded, jobs and countries changed, the practice of yoga waxed and waned.  Now that yoga has become a constant in her daily life, she realizes the innumerable benefits that practicig yoga brings.  She started with Sivananda in Eastern Canada then practiced Iyengar when she settled in Alberta.  It was in 2002 that she tasted Ashtanga with Vickie and was totally hooked.  She started her teacher training in 2007 and became registered with Yoga Alliance through Trinity Yoga in 2009.

The practice of yoga has helped me to understand myself better and has strengthened me through discipline, self-confidence, and perseverance.  I have found that when one makes time to do yoga, the highs and lows and consequent stresses of every day life are reduced.  A more balanced life style is created and stress is calmly manageable.

Karen believes that with practice, yoga will strengthen your body and tone internal organs.  It will rejuvenate the spine, improve posture, balance, concentration, and lead to a sense of well-being.  A quote from her first yoga teacher has stayed with her through the years: "You are as young as your spine is flexible".
