Yoga Therapy > Voice Training

"Sufi teacher Hazrat Inayat Khan taught that the human voice is a barometer for the human soul.  Its transparency reveals the soul’s every condition.  Joy, sorrow, anger, and pain – each has its own voice that comes through, despite the most skilful deception.  So by affecting our voice, we can affect our soul."  (Russill Paul, The Yoga of Sound)

The voice is a powerful tool for communication and connecting to others in many areas of life.  Learn how to use the instrument of the voice to speak more clearly and effectively from a place of truth and authenticity, whether speaking one-on-one or to a group.

Doug MacArthur is an Assistant Professor with the Dept of Theatre and Dramatic Arts at The University of Lethbridge where he teaches drama, voice, and dialect.  Doug offers group workshops as well as one-on-one voice coaching to students who want to learn how to use their voices more effectively in both their professional and private life.

He can be reached through Spirit-in-Motion Yoga or Email: d.macarthur@uleth.ca.

“When we study the science of breath, the first thing we notice is that breath is audible;  it is a word in itself, for what we call “word” is only a more pronounced utterance of breath fashioned by the mouth and tongue.  In the capacity of the mouth, breath becomes voice, and therefore the original condition of a word is breath.  If we said, “First was the breath”, it would be the same as saying, “In the beginning was the word.”
